REST-COAST partner MedPAN has launched a dedicated webpage featuring key materials developed within the project to support Marine Protected Area (MPA) managers and marine conservation stakeholders in understanding and applying the EU Nature Restoration Law (NRL).
Adopted in August 2024, the NRL sets ambitious goals to halt biodiversity loss and restore degraded ecosystems across Europe. MPA managers, with their knowledge of marine environments and local governance, are well-positioned to contribute to these efforts.
The new webpage offers a range of resources tailored to their needs. A FAQ guide provides clear answers about the law’s objectives and how it will be implemented. A visual summary presents the main provisions of the law in a simple, accessible format. A literature review examines recent restoration efforts in Mediterranean MPAs and highlights key habitats and management strategies. An inventory report identifies current gaps, capacities and opportunities, offering insights from both research and stakeholder experience.
These materials are designed to help practitioners engage with the law and support the development of effective national restoration plans available in both French and English.
