New REST-COAST publication supports nature-based coastal restoration and adaptation
Within the REST-COAST project, a new scientific publication titled ‘Nature-based adaptation in human-dominated coastal ecosystems’ has been published in the journal “Ecological Indicators”.
The work showcases an approach that integrates quantitative data with expert-based evaluations to assess suitable restoration techniques under data scarcity.
The publication is a fully project-derived output of the REST-COAST project, developed through a collaborative effort involving experts from across Europe. This collaboration represents a key strength of the paper, enabling the integration of diverse expertise and coastal ecosystem perspectives.
It concludes that expert-based assessments help evaluate suitable restoration techniques when data is limited, and the open-source tool integrates emerging knowledge and supports restoration projects.
This publication represents an important contribution to advancing evidence-based coastal restoration and supporting the implementation of effective and resilient adaptation strategies.
