Coastal Challenge - the serious video game developed by the CMCC Foundation in the context of REST-COAST, is now in its final development stage. The team has begun actively showcasing the game at international events focused on climate adaptation and resilience.
On 27 October 2025, during Paris Climate and Nature Week, CMCC Foundation will host the first public gameplay session of Coastal Challenge.
This interactive workshop, organised by Sciences Po in Paris, will introduce participants to various decision-making challenges related to coastal resilience and navigate associated trade-offs across ecological, social, and economic dimensions over a 30-year period.
The video game allows players to manage diverse coastal environments, including deltas, estuaries, and islands, while facing challenges such as sea level rise, flooding, and biodiversity loss. Players can test different adaptation strategies, from ecosystem-based solutions such as wetlands to traditional engineering such as seawalls, to find resilient coastal pathways within environmental tipping points.
The session will be led by Paola Tanguy, Coastal and Water Resilience Policy Specialist at CMCC, and Mathilde Luna Joly, PhD candidate at the University of Bologna and CMCC researcher. With their guidance, participants will explore the complexities of climate adaptation through interactive decision-making.
