Sofia, Bulgaria will be the host of the 61st session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). While the official event will take between 27 July and 2 August 2024, within the framework of the main event a satellite program will be hosted on 25 and 26 July. During the side session, the Bulgarian Ministry of Environment and Water, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Municipality of Sofia will host a scientific conference on "Climate risks in the Black Sea region".
Internationally recognised scientists from Bulgaria and the region will discuss topics, such as climatic characteristics and changes of the Black Sea basin and their consequences; the Black Sea and the world ocean - sea level rise, salinity change; The Black Sea and the rivers.
The conference will conclude with a round table, at which it is expected that the demonstrated scientific knowledge will become the basis for shaping political decisions for the development of the region, including at the local government level.
During the conference, the Institute of Oceanology - BAS will present the REST-COAST achievements within the Foros Pilot in the panel dedicated to adaptation to climate change impact.
