The Barcelona Convention - COP23 event was held in Portoroz, Slovenia between 5-8 December 2023.
The Barcelona Convention is the only regional multilateral legal framework for the protection of the Mediterranean marine and coastal environment. It was established as a result of the Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP), which was designed by the United Nations to improve the environment in the Mediterranean. It was a huge stride towards establishing a new culture of cooperation to combat pollution and reduce adverse environmental impacts, preserve biodiversity and improve the climate.
The conference had multiple events on different days and the REST-COAST project attended, alongside our partners from IUCN and EURECAT and promoted nature-based solutions in coastal ecosystems.
REST-COAST presented at side event number 4: CLIMATE CHANGE: From COASTAL to FOREST Ecosystems: Mediterranean Nature-based Solutions to Tackle Climate Change and Ensure the Resilience of Natural Ecosystems and People. The project’s presentation was “Effective restoration through transformative governance and upscaling”.
