REST-COAST at the ecosystem-based adaptation workshop in Berlin

REST-COAST was presented at the “Ecosystem-based Adaptation for Coastal Resilience: In-depth Workshop on Stocktake and Finance Perspectives”, held on 7–8 October 2025 in Berlin, Germany. The event was organised by the Ecologic Institute and brought together scientists, policymakers and practitioners to discuss ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA), sea-level rise and coastal resilience.

During the event, Robert Nicholls from the University of East Anglia (UEA) showed the “Projected impacts of sea-level rise: State of research and implications for Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA)” presentation, highlighting research on future coastal risks and adaptation approaches.

The workshop also included the presentation “Adapting to Rising Seas: The Global Economic Case for Green vs. Gray Coastal Infrastructures” by Sebastiano Bacca, Ethan Umbo, Syed Shamsil Arefin, Jochen Hinkel, Mark Schuerch, Robert Nicholls, Daniel Lincke and Lars Enno Honsel, developed in the framework of REST-COAST cooperation between the Global Climate Forum, the University of East Anglia and the University of Lincoln.

The workshop provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives between science, policy and practice, while strengthening discussions on the role of ecosystem-based adaptation in improving long-term coastal resilience.
