As part of its strategic policy engagement, REST-COAST will host a policy-focused breakfast event titled “How can we successfully restore our vulnerable coastal areas in a changing climate?” on Thursday, 6 November 2025, from 08:00 to 09:30 CET at the European Parliament in Brussels.
The session is organised by REST-COAST partners from IUCN, and will provide an opportunity to introduce the project’s policy briefs, with a particular emphasis on the brief on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), ahead of the Climate COP30, which will take place the following week in Belém, Brazil.
Coastal ecosystems are vital for biodiversity, climate resilience and community well-being, yet face growing threats from sea level rise, erosion and the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution.
Strong and integrated policy frameworks such as the EU Nature Restoration Regulation (NRR) are crucial for scaling up restoration and meeting EU and global commitments. As Member States prepare National Restoration Plans ahead of COP30 in Belém, this event explores how to elevate coastal restoration within national and EU policies to achieve climate and biodiversity goals.
Bringing together EU policymakers, national representatives and experts, the session will identify ways to align the NRR, Paris Agreement and Kunming Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework to enhance implementation and policy coherence.
Held within the REST- COAST project (Green Deal Restoration Cluster), the event builds on policy insights supporting large-scale, governance-driven coastal restoration across Europe.
