REST-COAST at Maritime Hub 2025 in Barcelona
REST-COAST activities and restoration approaches were presented at Maritime Hub 2025 “Towards the blue horizon”, held in Barcelona, Spain, on November 18th. The event, organised by BlueNetCat and the Generalitat de Catalunya, brought together experts, researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss innovation and sustainability in the blue economy.
As part of the thematic block on “Nature-based solutions for a resilient coastline”, REST-COAST representative Manel Grifoll (UPC) delivered the presentation “When nature is the best engineer: natural solutions for a resilient littoral”.
The presentation focused on REST-COAST demonstration activities at the Ebro Delta Pilot site, presenting hands-on restoration measures for ecosystem services and biodiversity. The demonstrations highlighted how restored coastal roughness through embryonic dunes, lagoons and other nature-based features can enhance coastal resilience and support climate adaptation in coastal areas.
The event provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge and discuss innovative coastal adaptation strategies with international experts and stakeholders working across the marine and maritime sectors.
