EGU General Assembly
REST-COAST research and coastal restoration approaches presented at EGU 2025
REST-COAST was represented at the EGU General Assembly 2025, held on 2 May 2025 in Vienna, Austria. The conference is one of Europe’s leading scientific events in the fields of geosciences, climate research and environmental change, bringing together researchers and experts from around the world.
As part of the programme, REST-COAST partners organised a dedicated scientific session coordinated by Agustín Sánchez-Arcilla, Manel Grifoll (UPC), Joanna Staneva (HEREON), Sandro Carniel and Davide Bonaldo. The session focused on coastal restoration, climate adaptation and nature-based solutions, highlighting REST-COAST methodologies and research activities related to coastal resilience and ecosystem restoration.
Project research was further presented through the contribution “Enhanced Nearshore Forecasting in Barcelona, Spain: A Next-Generation, High-Resolution Wave-Current Modelling Tool” by Marcos G. Sotillo, Baptiste Mourre, Marc Mestres (UPC), Pablo Lorente, Roland Aznar, Manuel García-León, Maria Liste, Alex Santana, Manuel Espino and Enrique Álvarez, which explored advanced forecasting and modelling tools for improving coastal risk assessment and management.
In addition, the presentation “Analysis of primary biomass dynamics in a micro-tidal estuary: The case of Fangar Bay” by Marta F.-Pedrera Balsells (UPC), Manel Grifoll, Margarita Fernández-Tejedor, Manuel Espino, Marc Mestres and Agustín Sánchez-Arcilla examined ecosystem dynamics and environmental processes in Mediterranean estuarine systems.
The conference provided an important opportunity to disseminate REST-COAST scientific results and exchange knowledge with the international geoscience community on topics related to coastal resilience, ecosystem restoration and adaptation to climate change.
